This blog will talk about some images that taken by me in China, these images are about old architecture and the things around the buildings. China has a long history and there are many old buildings such as the Great Wall, in the city where I live, I chose a park to take some images on the old architecture.   The first image is a kind of flower called pomegranate flower, it grows on the top of an old house and extends towards the door of the house, I like this image very much, the flower is clear and the door is vague, they match very well just as the nature and the old building. The second image is a traditional thing on Chinese old houses' doors, these two door rings are special and beautiful, people can pull the door rings when they want to go into the houses, the third image is a stone lion in front of an old house, this is another traditional things about old buildings in China, the fifth image is the appearance of an old building in China, you can see its coloful g

Architectural photography   My photo project is about architecture, so this blog I want to introduce something on the architectural photography.    Architectural photography   is the photographing of buildings and similar structures that are both aesthetically pleasing and accurate representations of their subjects. Architectural photographers are usually skilled in the use of specialized techniques and cameras, in my opinion, photographers use cameras to take images on the architectures they choose is to tell the audiences the story of the architecture.   For techniques on taking architectural photos, tr aditionally, view cameras have been used for architectural photography as they allow for the lens to be tilted or shifted relative to the film plane. This allows for control of perspective, as well as a variety of creative possibilities, and in a similar fashion to landscape photography, a deep depth of field is usually employed so that both the foreground and background (

This blog will introduce a famous architectural photographer, his name is Andrew Prokos, he is an award-winning architectural and fine art photographer based in New York City. His photos have been widely published and exhibited in museums, galleries, and art collections in the USA, Europe, and Asia. Andrew’s high-definition fine art photos range from 120 inch wide large-scale cityscapes  to more intimately sized matted and framed photographs.    Andrew captures his ultra-high-resolution fine art images using large-format film and digital capture. This allows us to produce astonishingly detailed large-scale prints up to 150 inches wide. Andrew’s photos exhibit high-definition and the unparalleled sharpness and clarity found in prints sold in museums and art galleries. Interior designers, architects, hotels, and corporate art collections have purchased and proudly display Andrew’s photographs in their most important spaces.   Andrew has taken many images on the architectures both

Flash light   This blog will talk about the use of falsh light in photography and my experience in using flash light to take some images in the car park of university.      A flash is a device used in photography producing a flash of artificial light (typically 1/1000 to 1/200 of a second) at a color temperature of about 5500 K to help illuminate a scene. A major purpose of a flash is to illuminate a dark scene.  Other uses are capturing quickly moving objects or changing the quality of light. Flash refers either to the flash of light itself or to the electronic flash unit discharging the light. Most current flash units are electronic, having evolved from single-use flashbulbs and flammable powders. Modern cameras often activate flash units automatically.    The third image were my work in the car park using flashlight, using flash may have a dark scene, I thought car park is a good choice, so I went into the car park and took some photos, this image was taken by the

This blog will talk about my trip to Stanmer Park, I went to the park and took some images in the countryside, these photos were abot the old church in the village and some flowers that I thought interesting and beautiful.   The two pohotos of the old church is the best ones in all the images about the place, I was standing under the architecture and using my camera to make a low-angle shot on the church, the shutter speed in the first image that I used was 1/160s, and the aperture was f/9, the image contains the top of the church and the tree just above the building, the second image I used 1/200s sutter speed and the aperture was f/10, the two images I all used the building and the tree near it, it was the combination of architecture and nature.   From the photos that I took on the flowers in the countryside, I think these two are the best, the first image I used 1/200 shutter speed and the aperture was f/5.6, the purple color of the flower was beautiful and cute I t

The third experience that I want to introduce in my blog was about the car park in the university, I went to this car park to take some photos. The reason why I chose this car park to do my workshop task is that this car park's appearance. This special architecture looks very modern and attractive to me, I thought that taking images on the car park will be an interesting experience.   This two images was about the appearance of the car park, the first one was the building of the car park and the spiral stairs outside it, there was a problem that the right side of the car park and the top of the stairs were too bright in the image, they looks not very clear. The second one was taken when I was standing on the stairs, taking a low-angle shot on the building of car park, this image contains the building and the stairs, it has many metallic elements. Except from the two images, I also chose other two photos, the first one was taken on the top of the car park, and the second on

Motion blur   This blog will introduce what I have learned about the knowledge of motion blur in photography. Motion blur is the apparent streaking of moving objects in a photograph or a sequence of frames, such as a film or animation. It results when the image being recorded changes during the recording of a single exposure, due to rapid movement or long exposure.    When a camera creates an image, that image does not represent a single instant of time. Because of technological constraints or artistic requirements, the image may represent the scene over a period of time. Most often this exposure time is brief enough that the image captured by the camera appears to capture an instantaneous moment, but this is not always so, and a fast moving object or a longer exposure time may result in blurring artifacts which make this apparent. 1   In the two images, we can see the impact of using motion blur, the objects have become vague, this can show the beauty of moving, and usi

My presentation is on week 9, the title of the presentation is "Ubiqutous photography and web 3.0 services", the artist I have looked for is Penelope Umbrico, here is some information I will talk in the presentation. Penelope Umbrico is not a photographer but an artist who using images to make artworks. And she is good at using images, she is best known appropriating images which are found from the searching engines and picture sharing websites.   There may be a question that why she is related to the web 3.0 services, to this question, I have found some features on web 3.0 services, web 3.0 has main five features, semantic web; artificial intelligennce; 3D graphics; connectivity and ubiquity, these features make people's resources connected together online, for example, on YouTube or Instagram, you can find thousands of photos on various topics, for Umbrico, she can download these photos and make them into a new photo, and she like using images which she finds in th

Depth of field   This blog I want to talk about what I have learned on the knowledge of depth of field which also called "DOF" in photography. Depth of field is the distance betwwen the closest and farthest objects in a photo that appears acceptly sharp, and there is narrow and large depth of field.   In the picture, we can understand the narrow and large DOF clearly, in the photograph with a narrow DOF, only a small slice of the image is in focus. Conversely, with a large DOF,  much more of the scene is sharp. Many DSLR's have a depth of field preview button, live view can be ues to check how the depth of field will look, and if you press the   button while tou look through the viewfinder, the camera will stop down the lens, and you will see the actual image will look.   In my opnion, it is important to decide whemn you need a small DOF and how to create it , and to archive a shallower DOF, t o achieve a shallower DoF you can either move closer to y

The second experience of the module was to take some images on people in the university, I had taken some images on my classmates first, and I chose one friend to be my model, among all the three images, I like the second one best, the color ithe model weared n the photo is very bright, the model had weared a yellow jacket and it matched the yellow leaves beside him, and his balck skin also made a contrast to the bright color in the image, he was standing just near the steps, leaning on the handrail, the steps and the handrail ha become the backround of the image,.   There is some disadvantage in the third image I think, the model is also my friend in the yellow jacket, standing in front of the steps, maybe I just want to make the image a warm feeling, so the light exposure was a little bit higher, so the image looked too bright, but one of the interest thing in this photo I think is the second people in my image, this people was just moving on the steps in the background, so I to

Aperture   Except from ISO and shutter speed, aperture is also very important when you take your images, the aperture stop of a photographic lens can beadjusted to control the amount of light reaching the film and image sensor. The lens aperture is usually specified as an f-number, so you can see the different choice on the camera, like f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8 and so on.   In the concept of apeture, there is an important aspect that called maximum and minimum aperture, for example, f/1.4 to f/22, i n this case, f/1.4 is the maximum aperture (the widest opening), and f /22 is the minimum aperture (the smallest opening), this value is also known as lens "speed", as it affects the exposure time, and the exposure time of the f/2 is one quater that of f/4.   In combination of sutter speed, the aperture size will regulate the film's or image sensor's degree of exposure to light, typically, a faster shutter will require a larger apeture to ensure the sufficient li

ISO and shutter speed   This two things were which I had learned about the Nikon D7OOO camera on my first class. In digital photography, ISO measures the sensitivity of the image sensor, if younselect the high numbers of your ISO, your sensor will be more sensitve to light which allow you take images in a darker environment, I can choose the appropriate ISO on my camera to take images, and different ISO will make differnet impact on your images.   Another important thing on camera is shutter speed, it can have a dramatic impact on the appearance and quality of your images, especilly when moving objects are involved, very short shutter speed can be used to freeze fast-moving subjects, for instance, when you are taking images at sports events, very long shutter speed are ued to intentionally blur a moving subject to effect, there are different shutte speed on the camera, for example, there are shutter speed on 1/30s, 1/60s, 1/250s, 1/2000s and 1/3200s, just like ISO, you should choo

T his was the first day that I had my lesson on this module, the first difficulty that I faced was I never use Nikon D7000 before, and even the Nikon camera, I always used my Canon 70D camera to take photos, so it took me some time to get familar with the camera, we went to the small square near the Falmer Bar, after taking some photos on the people and the building, I have learned how to change ISO and shutter speed on this camera, apart from the images that I took on the people and building, I also took an interest image on a twig in the water.
